Cookie Policy

Last updated 14 August 2026

Essential cookies keep you signed in. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to count visits — you can switch those off below, and they stop immediately. We also show non-personalised ads through Google AdSense, which is what keeps wed.cards free to start.

1. The short version

We use a small number of cookies to keep you logged in and the site secure. Those are essential — without them the site simply wouldn't work, so they can't be switched off while you're using it.

We use two optional tools: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. Between them they count visits and show us which parts of a page people actually use, so we can see what is working and what isn't. Both are on by default, and the single switch below turns off both at once — straight away, without a reload.

We do show ads, through Google AdSense. They are what keeps wed.cards free to start. They sit at the foot of a page, never on a payment screen, and never in the middle of something you are doing.

The ads you see are not personalised. Advertising storage, advertising data and ad personalisation are switched off permanently in our setup, so Google cannot use your browsing to target ads at you and cannot turn that on by accident. We don't run retargeting, we don't build profiles of you, and we never share anything with data brokers.

The analytics switch below does not remove ads — ads pay for the free plan, so they stay. It turns off the two measurement tools. Your browser settings or an ad-blocker will stop the ads, and we don't try to work around either.

Analytics is on

Switch this off and we'll stop counting your visits straight away. It takes effect immediately — no reload needed.

Your choice is remembered in this browser. If you use another browser or device, or clear your site data, you'll need to set it again there.

2. Strictly necessary cookies

These are set by us, locked down so no other site can read them, and never used to track you.

NamePurposeLifetime
session_tokenKeeps you signed in to your account. Without it, every page would ask you to log in again.24 hours
admin_session_tokenSigns in members of the wed.cards team to the admin console. Never set for ordinary visitors.24 hours
verified_cardsRemembers that you entered the correct access code for a private invitation, so you are not asked on every page.24 hours

3. Browser storage we use

These aren't cookies — they stay in your browser and are never sent to us — but we list them anyway, because anything stored on your device deserves the same openness.

KeyTypePurposeLifetime
wc_consent_v1localStorageRemembers it if you turn analytics off. Essential — storing your choice is what makes the choice stick.Until you clear it
_clsk / CLIDlocalStorageSet by Microsoft Clarity while analytics is on, to tie the pages of one visit together. Not set at all if you have turned analytics off.Until you clear it
wc_geo_currencysessionStorageCaches which currency to display so we do not recalculate it on every page load.Until you close the tab

4. Analytics cookies

While analytics is on, the cookies below are set. Google Analytics is configured to shorten your IP address before Google ever sees it, so it can count visits without identifying you. Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used — where people click and scroll — and masks the text you type, so what you enter in a form is not captured. Turn analytics off above and neither tool loads, so nothing at all is stored.

NameProviderPurposeLifetime
_gaGoogleDistinguishes one visitor from another so visits can be counted.2 years
_ga_<container-id>GoogleMaintains the analytics session state.2 years
_clckMicrosoftKeeps one identifier for this browser so repeat visits are not counted as new people.1 year
_clskMicrosoftGroups the pages you view into a single visit.1 day
MUIDMicrosoftA Microsoft-wide browser identifier, used to recognise unique visitors.1 year

Google and Microsoft handle this on our behalf, under contract. Full details are on our Privacy Policy page.

5. Advertising cookies

Google AdSense sets its own cookies to show ads, cap how often you see the same one, and detect click fraud. Because we have ad personalisation switched off permanently, these are not used to build an advertising profile of you or to follow you around other sites. These cookies are set by Google on its own domains, so the exact names and lifetimes are Google's to change, but the ones you are most likely to see are below.

NameProviderPurposeLifetime
__gads / __gpiGoogleMeasures how often an ad is shown and limits repeats.Up to 13 months
IDE / test_cookieGoogle (DoubleClick)Measures ad performance and detects invalid clicks.Up to 13 months

Google's own description of what it stores for advertising is on its cookies and advertising page.

6. Changing your mind

Turning analytics off should be easy, so there are three ways to do it:

  • Use the switch in section 1 above — it works whether you're signed in or not.
  • Signed in? Profile → Privacy & Data has the same switch.
  • Your browser's own settings, or an ad-blocker, will also stop it. We don't try to work around either.

Your choice is stored in the browser you made it in. Clearing your site data resets it, and you'll need to set it again on other devices.
